Blogging like it's the early 2000's

★ my rebellion ★

Look I’ve been on a nostalgia kick and I feel like the world is feeling it too. Surprisingly, it’s not just millennials, even Gen Z has made our childhood a trend and I don’t know…I’m kind of here for it.

Surprisingly, it’s not just millennials, even Gen Z has made our childhood a trend and I don’t know…I’m kind of here for it. A recent global consumer study by Vevo revealed that 65% of Gen Z feel deeply nostalgic for eras they were never alive to experience. Researchers call this phenomenon “borrowed nostalgia.”

We’ve seen the revival of Y2k, digital subcultures, Spice Girls fashion, Bratz influencers + the Tumblr indie rock era. We’ve also seen all these Instagram pages created by real OG Millennials about growing up in the 90s-early 2000s, which always unlocks sooo many core memories!! Not to mention the analog movement. More on that in another post!

So naturally, I’ve been going down memory lane, fantasizing about the good ol’.. AIM chat rooms, coding your Myspace page, advice columns, and having fun on the blogs. Posting + sharing to have FUN!

You know the days before Substack. The days before everyone’s Instagram was so curated. The days before everyone was an influencer, expert, or guru, and just spilled their guts on the internet. I miss that personal diary feel, so screw it.. I‘m bringing it back. Sidenote: I realllllyyyy miss the Instagram squares!! Bring. those. back.

Even if all I do is speak to the void…I’m perfectly content with that. I choose to live my whimsical little life and enchant everything I can touch. And really? I’m doing this for her. My teenage self who loved taking artistic hand pictures on photo booth, had horrendous eyebrow game, loved burning CD’s, and hitting the mall.

Who else remembers going to the Apple store at the mall to use the photo booth with their friends? LOL.

It seems like what most of us are craving is a return to normalcy and simplicity before the world as we know it gets taken over by robots or AI. JK but who knows really…

I’m not worried about sounding smart, interesting, or like the expert. I don’t care if I have typos or use punctuations incorrectly. In the world of ChatGPT and it’s army of brothers and sisters, this IS my act of rebellion. I’m giving myself full permission to be messy, raw, and HUMAN :p

I asked my partner, “What do you think people will be nostalgic for 20 years from now?” and I was surprised by his answer.

“Space.”

So. Deep. So today I leave you with the same question as a journal prompt.

What do you think people will be nostalgic for 20 years from now?

I’m also looking to connect with more witches, rebels, and whimsical girlies. Come say hello @innermystic.

If you want to join the rebellion and receive more content where I spill the tea on all things magick, cosmos, and reality bending, then join the good ol’ email list! As a millennial, I also like to talk about nostalgia, cozy hobbies, and more. As an aquarius moon, I don’t really like to box myself in LOL. I talk about what I feel inspired by and am interested in. f*ck a niche.
